“ELMER S. WEDERTZ DIES IN SMITH VALLEY;
FUNERAL MONDAY”
Elmer S. Wedertz, 63, died Thursday at
the home of his sister, Mrs. H.E. Carter at Smith Valley, following a
lengthy illness. Mrs. Carter recently brought her brother from San
Francisco.
Mr. Wedertz was born in Bridgeport April 22, 1888. He
attended the University of Nevada, later completing a business course
in San Francisco and went into business in the bay city.
He
returned to Nevada in 1913 and entered the livestock business. He
sold out his holdings in Smith Valley in 1942 and for several years
was associated with the Taylor grazing service and later with the
Pacific Woolgrowers association as field man. He remained with that
group until his health failed.
He was the son of the late C.E.
Wedertz and the late Mrs. Flora Hunt. Survivors include two sons,
Earl and Merle, of San Francisco, a sister, Mrs. H.E. (Rowena) Carter
of Smith Valley; four grandsons, two uncles, Clarence Wedertz of
Bridgeport, and Frank Wedertz of Burlingame; two nieces, Mrs. Ellen
Gilbert of Texas and Miss Ann Utzman of Bridgeport; two nephews,
Gordon Wedertz of Yerington and Warren Wedertz of Wellington; and
several cousins.
He was the stepson of Mrs. Lou M. Wedertz of
Sacramento.
He was a veteran of world war I [caps]. Graveside
services were conducted by the Kermit H. Neddenriep VFW post of Smith
Valley. Burial was in the family plot at Hillcrest cemetery Monday 2
p.m. Freitas funeral service of Yerington was in charge.
