Inyo Register, September 10, 1908
"RAWHIDE BURNED."
Summary: A fire started in a Rawhide, Nevada doctor's office. Flames quickly reached the Ross Hotel, then a high wind drove flames through the frame buildings of town. An explosion of two tons of dynamite stored in one of the buildings accelerated the spread of the inferno. The town's water supply proved inadequate. Volunteer firemen were helpless in battling the raging fire. More than 3,000 people were burned out of their homes and businesses. Relief trains from Reno, Tonopah and Goldfield were put on the road. In true western fashion, the ashes had not yet cooled before orders were wired to Reno for lumber and brick for rebuilding.
