Summary: Stage running between Mojave and Keeler robbed near Little Lake.


1909

Inyo Register, January 21, 1909
"RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION: NO STOPPAGE LIKELY - LIVELY ALONG THE ROUTE"
Summary: C.E. Johnson returning to Owens Valley from Los Angeles by the southern route. He reports plenty of activity from Little Lake to Mojave. He said that the railroad was built to a mile north of Little Lake. Grading northward from that point has begun. In Little Lake, C.W. Whittock now has a saloon, and it is now his intention of coming to Independence, to see why the board has refused him renewal of a liquor license. During Johnson's conversation with Whittock, there was shots from the saloon. Whittock says that recently 35 men got into his place, became so rough as to completely destroy the house. He and six others got among them with pick handles, laid out the whole crowd and stacked them outside.

Summary: Charles W. Whittock, who conducts a retail liquor business in Little Lake, has violated Section V of Subdivision VI of the Liquor Ordinance and is ordered to pay a fine.


1980

Inyo Register, June 5, 1980
"CRASH SITE"
An accident occurred at US 395 and South Little Lake when Harry and Mary Mendsen of Hemet broadsided the right side of the engine of a train while attempting to cross the tracks. Harry Mendsen, 84, received moderate injuries and his wife Mary received major injuries.
