“PAINFUL AND SERIOUS ACCIDENT.”
D.P. Kendrick, of Los Angeles, same [sic] to the vicinity of Death Valley Junction to look into some mining interests. Late last week he went hunting and secured a bunch of rabbits, some fifteen miles from Death Valley Junction, which he was carrying. He had his gun upon his shoulder when the load of rabbits caused him to let his gun slip, and though he tried to catch it, it fell from his shoulder back of him, the trigger struck a projecting rock and the charge of shot entered the left leg just above the ankle, severely shattering the bone. It was fully twenty-four hours after the accident before he reached the care of Dr. F.P. Bowen. It was found necessary to amputate the foot above the ankle. W.T. Kendrick, attorney, was telegraphed and came Monday to Rhyolite.

Inyo Register, April 22, 1909
